Rice University also participates in supplying local tutors via the America Reads Tutoring Program. This program places tutors in community sites like Nehemiah Neighborhood Center and Wharton Elementary School. Rice is committed to working with local Houston students, in the belief that students who cannot read with proficiency by third grade have significantly diminished chances of success later in school.
